Achievements: As a scientist and engineer, he worked on several important projects of Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Dr. A.  P.J.  Abdul Kalam was a noted Indian scientist and the 11th President of India.  He served in some of the most important organizations in the country (DRDO and ISRO).  He also played an important role in the 1998 Pokhran II nuclear test.  Dr. Kalam was also involved with India's space program and missile development program.  For this reason he is also called 'Missile Man'.  In the year 2002, Kalam was elected President of India and after serving a 5-year term, he returned to teaching, writing, and public service.  He was honored with several prestigious awards including Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honor.

Early Life

Avul Pakir Zainul Abidin Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu to a Muslim family.  His father Zainulabidin was a sailor and his mother Ashiamma was a homemaker.  His family's financial condition was not good, so he had to work from a young age.  Balam Kalam used to distribute newspaper after school to help his father financially.  During his school days, Kalam was normal in studies but always ready and willing to learn something new.  He had a hunger for learning and he used to pay attention to studies for hours.  He did his schooling from Ramanathapuram Schwartz Matriculation School and then attended St. Joseph's College, Tiruchirapalli, from where he graduated in 1954 in physics.  He then moved to Madras in the year 1955 from where he studied aerospace engineering.  In the year 1960, Kalam completed his engineering studies from Madras Institute of Technology.

Career

After completing his engineering studies from the Madras Institute of Technology, Kalam joined the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) as a scientist.  Kalam started his career by designing a small helicopter for the Indian Army.  Kalam was not getting satisfaction from his work in DRDO.  Kalam Pandit was also a member of the Indian National Committee for Space Research constituted by Jawaharlal Nehru.  During this time he got an opportunity to work with the famous space scientist Vikram Sarabhai.  He was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) in 1969.  Here he was appointed as the director of India's satellite launch vehicle project.  As a result of the success of this project, India's first satellite 'Rohini' was placed in the Earth's orbit in the year 1980.  Joining ISRO was the most important turning point of Kalam's career and when he started work on the satellite launch vehicle project, he felt as if he was doing the same work as he thought.

During 1963–64, he also visited NASA, a US space organization.  Atomic scientist Raja Ramanna, under whose supervision India conducted its first nuclear test, also invited Kalam to see the nuclear test at Pokhran in 1974.

In the seventies and eighties, Dr. Kalam became very famous in India with his works and successes and he was named among the greatest scientists of the country.  His fame had grown so much that the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi allowed him to work on some secret projects without the approval of his cabinet.

The Government of India started the ambitious 'Integrated Guided Missile Development Program' under Dr. Kalam.  He was the Chief Executive of this project.  The project has given missiles like Agni and Prithvi to the country.

From July 1992 to December 1999, Dr. Kalam was the Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).  India conducted its second nuclear test during this period.  He played an important role in it.  R.  Dr. Kalam was the coordinator of the project along with Chidambaram.  The media coverage received during this time made him the greatest nuclear scientist in the country.

In 1998, Dr. Kalam along with heart physician Soma Raju developed a low-cost coronary stent.  It was named as 'Kalam-Raju Stent'.

President of India

In view of his achievements and fame as a defense scientist, N.  D. A.  The coalition government made him the presidential candidate in the year 2002.  He defeated his rival Lakshmi Sehgal by a huge margin and was sworn in as the 11th President of India on 25 July 2002.  Dr. Kalam was the third President of the country who had been awarded the Bharat Ratna even before he became President.  Earlier, Dr. Radhakrishnan and Dr. Zakir Hussain were awarded 'Bharat Ratna' before becoming President.

During his tenure, he was called the 'President of the people'.  At the end of his term, he also expressed his desire for a second term, but because of lack of opinion among political parties, he abandoned the idea.

At the end of the term of 12th President Pratibha Patil, his name was once again in the discussion as the next possible President but due to lack of consensus, he abandoned the idea of his candidature.

Time after retirement

After his retirement from the post of President, Dr. Kalam was engaged in work like teaching, writing, guidance and research and was associated with visiting institutions like Indian Institute of Management, Shillong, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management, Indore, etc.  .  In addition, he was a Fellow of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, Anna University, Chennai, Professor of Aerospace Engineering.

He also taught information technology at IIIT Hyderabad, Banaras Hindu University and Anna University.

Kalam always talked about the youth of the country and how to improve their future.  In this regard, he also started the 'What Can I Give' initiative for the youth of the country, which aims to eliminate corruption.  Considering his popularity among the youth of the country, he received 2 times (2003 & 2004) 'M.T.V.  Was also nominated for the 'Youth Icon of the Year Award'.

Hindi film 'I Am Kalam' released in 2011 is influenced by his life.

Apart from teaching, Dr. Kalam has also written several books, which are prominent in 'India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium', 'Wings of Fire: An Autobiography', 'Ignited Minds: Unleashing the Power Within India', 'Mission India'.  , 'Indomitable Spirit' etc.

Know 10 special things about Kalam:

APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram in the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu.

Kalam's father, a sailor by profession, was not very educated.  They used to rent boat to fishermen.  To run a family of five brothers and five sisters, the father's money was scarce, so to continue his early education, Kalam also had to sell newspapers.

Right from the age of eight, Kalam used to get up at 4 in the morning and take a bath and go to study mathematics.  The reason behind taking a bath in the morning was that every year, their teachers, who taught mathematics to five children for free, did not teach children without taking a bath.  After coming from tuition, he used to offer Namaz and after that he used to distribute news papers till 8 in the morning at Rameswaram railway station and bus stand.

Kalam tells Subrahmanyam Iyer, his fifth class teacher, behind his entry into aerospace technology.  He says, 'He was one of our good teachers.  Once he asked in class how the bird flies?  If no student of the class answered it, the next day they took all the children to the beach.  Many birds were flying there.  Some were coming down to the sea and some were sitting.  There, he explained to us the reason behind the bird's flying, as well as the body texture of the birds, which is helpful in flying.  These things explained by him were so ingrained in me that I always felt that I am on the beach of Rameswaram and the incident of that day inspired me to set the goal of life.  Later I decided to make my career in the direction of flying.  I later studied physics and studied aeronautical engineering from Madras Engineering College. '

Kalam arrived in ISRO in 1962.  It was during this project that India built its first indigenous satellite launch vehicle SLV-3.  In 1980, the Rohini satellite was placed near the Earth's orbit and India became a member of the International Space Club.  Kalam then designed the indigenous guided missile.  They made missiles like Agni and Prithvi with Indian technology.

From 1992 to 1999, Kalam was also the Defense Advisor to the Defense Minister.  During this time, the Vajpayee government also conducted nuclear tests for the second time in Pokhran and India joined the countries making nuclear weapons.  Kalam gave Vision 2020.  Under this, Kalam gave special thinking to make India state-of-the-art by 2020 through the advancement in science.  Kalam was also the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Government of India.

In 1982, Kalam was made the director of DRDL (Defense Research Development Laboratory).  At the same time, Anna University awarded him a doctorate.  Kalam then prepared a proposal for the Integrated Guided Missile Development Program (IGMDP) with Dr. VS Arunachalam, Scientific Advisor to the Defense Minister.  For development of indigenous missiles, a committee was formed under the chairmanship of Kalam.

In its first phase, the emphasis was on making medium-to-ground missile from ground to ground.  In the second phase, it was proposed to make ground-to-air missile, antitank missile and Reentry Experiment Launch Vehicle (Rex).  Missiles named Prithvi, Trishul, Akash, Nag were made.  Kalam named his dream Rex as Agni.  First in September 1985, Trishul was tested in February 1988, Prithvi in May 1988 and Agni in May 1989.  After this, in 1998 India along with Russia started work on making supersonic cruise missile and BrahMos Private Limited was established.  BrahMos can be fired anywhere on earth, sky and sea.  With this success, Kalam gained fame as a missile man and was awarded the Padma Vibhushan.

Kalam was awarded the country's highest civilian honor, the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and again, the Padma Vibhushan in 1990 and the Bharat Ratna in 1997.  Kalam is only the third President of the country to receive the Bharat Ratna before his appointment to the highest post of India.  Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan and Zakir Hussain achieved this position before them.

Journey after leaving the presidency,

Kalam ji became the Chancellor of the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology Thiruvananthapuram after leaving the post of President.  At the same time, Anna became a professor in Aerospace Engineering College, University.  Apart from this, he was called as visiting professor in many colleges of the country.

 Death of APJ Abdul Kalam

Went to Shillong on 27 July 2015.  During a function in IIM Shillong, Abdul Kalam Saheb was ill, he was lecturing children in a college there, when suddenly he fell down.  After which he was admitted to the hospital in Shillong and due to his delicate condition, he was admitted to the ICU.  After which he took his last breath and said goodbye to the world.  Interesting things about missileman apj abdul kalam

Former President, Late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam conferred with Bharat Ratna

2015 'died during his address at IIT Guwahati.  Even after leaving the world

The work done, his thinking and his whole life is an inspiration for the country.  Come, great nation of the country

Learn some very interesting things about the manufacturer:

Dr. Abdul Kalam was someone who wanted to become a pilot but could not become a pilot due to any reason.  Then, not giving up, Jeevan showed what he put in front of him by accepting it.  He believed that if you want to get anything in life, then your high spirits will work for you.

Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in a village in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

Abdul Kalam's full name was 'Abul Pakkir Zainulabedin Abdul Kalam'.

He had five brothers and five sisters in his family and his father rented a boat to fishermen and ran the house.  His father was not very educated but was a high thinking person.  Kalam's childhood was spent in financial crisis.

After reading, he used to collect newspapers by visiting the railway station and bus station of Rameswaram in the morning.  After taking the newspaper, Abdul Kalam used to distribute it first by running on the streets of Rameswaram city.  This was his first step towards becoming self sufficient in childhood.

Kalam completed his early education at Rameswaram, graduated from St. Joseph's College and received an aeronautical engineering degree from Madras Institute of Technology.

Even after becoming President in 2002, his doors were always open to the public.  Many letters were written by themselves with their own hands.

After taking the oath of the nation's highest office i.e. 11th President, he raised the head of every scientist of the country with great pride.

Kalam had a special love for students.  Seeing this, the United Nations decided to celebrate his birthday as 'Student Day'.

APJ, known as Missile Man  Abdul Kalam is said to be the father of the Indian missile program.

Abdul Kalam is one of the nation builders of India, he is also called People's President.

His written books are Wings of Fire, India 2020, Ignand Maid, My Journey etc.  Abdul Kalam has received his doctorate from 48 universities and institutes.

Abdul Kalam among the few who received all the highest awards in India.  Honored with Padma Bhushan in 1981, Padma Vibhushan in 1990, Bharat Ratna in 1997.

On July 27, 2015, while addressing at IIT Guwahati, he suffered a cardiac arrest and died the country's great nation builder.

Tenure in DRDO Work In DRDO

He joined DRDO as a scientist only after his education and initially he contributed to the small helicopter design.

Being a part of the Indian National Committee for Space Research - INCOSPAR, he got an opportunity to work with great scientists of India such as Vikram Ambalal Sarabhai.

Tenure at ISRO Work In ISRO

In 1969 he was sent to ISRO where he served as Project Director

He contributed to the creation of the first satellite launch vehicle (SLV III) and the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle -PSLV, which were later successful.

In 1980, the Government of India thought of starting a modern missile program with Abdul Kalam Ji Direction, so he again sent it to DRDO.  Thereafter Integrated Guided Missile Development Program -IGMDP was launched as the Chief Executive of Kalam ji.  On the instructions of Abdul Kalam ji, it was successful to build a missile like Agni missile, Prithvi.

Missile Man and the vast life of the teacher

The Government of India increased the dignity of these honors by giving 'Padmabhushan', 'Padmivibhushan' and 'Bharataratna' to this 'missileman'.  He used to say - 'I am a teacher and want to be recognized as this'.  And indeed while taking his last breath he was among the students as a teacher.

They wanted to dream, not tears in our eyes.  He used to say - 'Dreams are not those which come at bedtime, but dreams are those which never allow to sleep.'  This aim of bringing new revolution in the country was the foundation of new India because of the youth.

It is indeed a matter of pride for India to have a person like Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam born on this earth.  Once Dr. Kalam was giving a lecture to the school children, then there was some disturbance in the electricity.  Kalam got up and went straight between the children and surrounded them and asked them to stand.

In this way he communicated with about four hundred children without a mic.  A few days after becoming President, he went to Kerala Raj Bhavan Trivandrum to attend an event.  He had the right to call any two people on his behalf, and you would be surprised to know who he called - a cobbler and a small hotel owner.

Actually, Dr. Kalam had lived in Trivandrum as a scientist for a long time, and since then he knew these people, and he gave importance to the common people rather than any leader or celebrity.

Example of simplicity

When someone becomes president, the government takes care of all his needs, even after he steps down.  This is the reason why Dr. Kalam donated all his savings for 'Providing Urban Eminities in Rural Areas'.

While Dr. Kalam was in DRDO, he was invited as the chief guest for a college event.  But Dr. Kalam went to visit the venue in the night, going there he said that he wants to meet those people who are behind the scenes to make the event successful, so this time came.

On 27 July 2015 in the evening, this great son of Mother India took us away to sleep forever in his lap.  The world lost a great scientist.  The country not only lost its former president, but also crores of children had the love of their beloved 'Kaka Kalam'.

Kalam used to appreciate the younger generation

Kalam believed that the younger generation is the real capital of the country.  Therefore, he was determined to make the country develop on the basis of youth.  He had given information in the document titled India Vision 2020 about many important things to realize the dream of making the country develop.  Later he also wrote a book on this titled India 2020: A Vision for the New Millennium.

Five important things Kalam emphasized to develop India by 2020 include promoting e-governance in agriculture and food processing, infrastructure, education and health, information and communication technology and education, as well as nuclear technology.  Development was involved.

They will double the production of farming and food processing in the country, drive electrification to villages and increase solar power, eliminate illiteracy, provide social security and health facilities to the people easily, promote technologies like telecommunication and telemedicine  Was considered indispensable for India's development.

Today, the government needs to work on these five things.  This is not only necessary to realize Kalam's dream, but also to provide a prosperous and happy life to the citizens of the country.

It is very worrying that the younger generation, who believe in Kalam, are moving towards disorientation rather than contributing to the development of the country, so the issue of balanced use of youth energy should be a foremost concern of the government.  If we are able to make meaningful use of youth power in the field of science, research and technology in time, then nothing can stop India from developing.

What can we learn from Dr. Kalam's life?

He was born into an ordinary fisherman's family, studied on paper benches, was never afraid to work hard, never moved honestly, his house was close to the sea and his desires were ahead of the sky.  Throughout his life, he kept the depths of the ocean in himself and also fulfilled his desire to know the secrets ahead of the sky.  His life is a school in itself, he who followed him became successful.  From the far southern end of India, the journey of the magnificent Raisina Hills Rashtrapati Bhavan was done very gracefully.  Here we are talking about the late President APJ Abdul Kalam.  Talking about him on this finance and business platform is important today because his life teaches us honesty, restraint and diligence which is very important for those working in this field or those associated with this field.  Reading this summary of Dr. Kalam's life time, we would like to understand how we can become a successful person by taking inspiration from him.

 Nuclear Test

APJ Abdul Kalam designed a mini helicopter for the Indian Army.  His career took a new turn when he was transferred to ISRO for the SLV-III project.  Representing TBRL, he represented the Smiling Buddha which was the first nuclear test.  In 1980, his extensive research and development work won him many awards and accolades.  He was the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister since July 1992.  His role in the field of technology and politics during the Pokhran-II nuclear test was commendable.

Don't rest after your first win because if you failed for the second time, most people would say that your first victory was only by luck.

 President of India

In 2002, APJ Abdul Kalam won the presidential election by a huge vote.  His term as President lasted from 25 July 2002 to 25 July 2007.  He got the support of Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Samajwadi Party.  It was an easy victory for him and he became the 11th President of the country.  He was awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award and was the third person to receive it.  He was the first Bachelor and the first scientist to get a seat in Rashtrapati Bhavan.  But, in 2012, he again refused to assume the presidency.

Education and attachment to students

After retiring from the post of Scientific Advisor in 1999, he made it his goal to communicate with 100,000 students.  He especially met high school students.  Their aim was to inculcate the spirit of development of India in the minds of these children.

Excellence is a continuous process and not a coincidence.  - Abdul Kalam
